Porté dans les Pyrénées-Atlantiques, c'est un nom basque dont le sens m'échappe. Si le premier élément (manda) semble avoir le sens de 'mulet' (mando, qui devient manda en composition), le second (garan) signifie 'grain', à moins d'y voir le mot 'garano' (= poulain, cheval, étalon), ce qui ne m'avance guère. Si quelqu'un pouvait connaître la solution !
